Financial Adviser - Route to Practice Ownership

Exchange Street Claims & Financial Services

    Finance
    Remote
    Midlothian, Edinburgh
    Permanent
    £60,000 - £65,000/year

You want to own your own financial planning business. You're just not quite ready to do it yet. Starting from scratch means finding clients, building a brand, creating systems, arranging support, funding the business and carrying all of the risk yourself. This opportunity gives you another route. You'll join an established financial planning practice in Edinburgh as an employed adviser on a salary of £60,000 to £65,000 plus bonus. Once signed off, you'll be given around 70 client relationships to manage and will work alongside the current owner as those relationships are gradually handed over. But this is not simply an employed adviser role. The long-term plan is for you to acquire the whole practice. The transition will take place over three to six years. That gives both sides time to build trust, prove the relationship works and prepare properly for ownership. You are unlikely to take on funding immediately. The first two to three years will be about advising clients, generating new business, growing revenue and showing that you can operate like a business owner rather than simply an employee. When the time is right, there is an established internal process to support the purchase. The business uses a set valuation method, so you will understand the likely numbers early rather than discovering them at the end. You will also have access to an internal team and a panel of lenders who can help structure and fund the acquisition. Think of it as a business mortgage. A proportion of ongoing income is used to repay the funding until the purchase is complete and the business is yours. The clients and revenue you generate yourself will also be yours. THE OPPORTUNITY The current owner has around 300 clients and plans to begin by transferring approximately 70 households. The handover will be structured. Clients will not simply be reassigned overnight and left wondering what happened. You will attend meetings, build relationships and gradually become the adviser those clients trust. But inherited clients are only part of the story. You will also be expected to find and win new business through client referrals, your own professional network and opportunities you create yourself. This is an entrepreneurial business. The current owner built the practice from the ground up and is looking for someone with the same commercial instinct. Someone who can spot opportunities, create momentum and turn relationships into clients. If you want a comfortable servicing role with a future ownership label attached, this is not it. You will have plenty of freedom over where and how you work. Being within practical reach of Edinburgh will make the client handover and relationship-building much easier. SUPPORT You will receive guidance and mentoring from an experienced practice owner who has already built the type of business you eventually want to run. The practice has established relationships with experienced outsourced paraplanners and wider technical support. All IT and remote-working equipment will be provided, together with access to: - Voyant - FE Analytics - SOFI - Tweed AI You will also benefit from an established brand, proven systems and the infrastructure needed to grow without having to build everything yourself. PACKAGE Salary is £60,000 to £65,000 plus a performance-related bonus. The wider package includes: - Pension - Life cover at four times salary - Critical illness cover at one times salary - Cycle-to-work scheme - Salary sacrifice electric vehicle option - Flexible benefits to be agreed HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED You'll be a qualified and credible financial adviser with a proven record of developing new business. You may already have clients or professional relationships you can bring. That is not essential, but clear evidence that you can generate opportunities is. You will be commercially ambitious and comfortable taking responsibility for revenue, client relationships and the future direction of the practice. You will also need patience. This is not an immediate buyout or a shortcut to calling yourself a business owner. You will need to prove yourself, build trust and grow the practice before taking on the funding and responsibility that comes with ownership. In return, you will have something most aspiring business owners do not: - A salary - Existing clients - A mentor - A recognised brand - Established systems - And a structured route to owning the whole business -Want your own financial planning firm but not ready to start from nothing? Click apply and we'll be in touch. If you don't have a CV, send us a way of contacting you. We can come to the CV later. Everyone will receive a response.
