    Product Owner (Platform & HR)

    Moorepay

    Accounting
    On-Site
    Lancashire, Manchester
    Permanent
    Competitive

Moorepay is a trusted leader in UK payroll and HR, serving thousands of employers - and we're now in the middle of the most significant transformation in our history, reinventing both what we build for our customers and how we build it. We're bringing payroll, HR and workforce management together on a single, modern platform, and we've rebuilt our product and engineering model around it from the ground up: AI-first, fast, and unlike anything the business has done before. This is a genuine inflection point. The foundations are being laid right now, and you'd be joining while there's still real shape to give - not walking into a mature product with years of legacy to wade through. It's fast-moving, it's new, and plenty of it is still being figured out. That's the appeal. We're looking for a Product Owner who turns platform strategy into the specifications our delivery teams build against, day in, day out. This position is on a hybrid working pattern, with 3 days per week in our Manchester office. We work in small, autonomous, cross-functional teams - we call them Pods - that bring Engineering, QA, UX and Product together around measurable outcomes rather than feature output. It's a deliberately modern, AI-first way of working, and it moves quickly. As Platform Product Owner you sit inside the Pod. The Platform Product Manager sets the strategy, the commercial case and the roadmap; you turn that into a clear, sequenced backlog of precise, buildable specifications, make the day-to-day trade-off calls that keep the Pod moving, and accept the work as it's delivered. You are the difference between a good brief and a good product. Here's the part that makes platform work different: the platform is the foundation the rest of the business builds on, so your customers aren't only end users. The Payroll, HR and Workforce Management teams rely on what the platform provides to build their own products - they're your customers too. Serving all of them cleanly, at once, is the hardest and most rewarding part of the job. Key Responsibilities - Write specifications with precision - Author specs and acceptance criteria clear and unambiguous enough for the team to build from directly, with nothing left to guess. This is the core of the role. - Own the Pod's backlog - Turn the Platform Product Manager's roadmap into a clear, sequenced backlog the Pod can build against. - Serve the domain teams as customers - Gather what Payroll, HR and WFM need from the platform and make sure it serves all of them cleanly - not just the loudest. - Make the day-to-day calls - Own in-Pod prioritisation and trade-offs so Engineering, QA and UX always know what matters most right now. - Accept the work - Review delivered work against spec and acceptance criteria, and sign it off before it ships. - Run the Pod's rhythm - Drive Pod ceremonies - planning, stand-ups, retros - keeping the team focused on outcomes, not just output. - Curate platform domain knowledge - Keep specs and platform context current as the platform evolves, working alongside the Architect and engineering. - Close the learning loop - Feed what the Pod learns during delivery back into the roadmap and sequencing. Skills & Experience Essential: - Experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst in a SaaS or software product environment - ideally translating strategy into detailed, buildable specifications. - Exceptional written precision - you can write specifications and acceptance criteria that leave no room for ambiguity. - Adaptable and eager to learn - you're energised by new tools and new ways of working, and comfortable when the path isn't fully mapped out yet. This is not a role for someone who needs everything defined before they move. - Comfortable working daily inside a fast-moving, cross-functional delivery team - you thrive on the pace and the collaboration. - A structured, evidence-based approach to backlog prioritisation and trade-offs. - Strong stakeholder skills - able to serve multiple internal product teams whose own work depends on your platform. - Existing right to work in the UK. Highly desirable: - Experience with platform or shared-services product areas - identity, integration, shared data, workflow - rather than standalone feature products. - Experience with modern, AI-assisted development approaches - and structured specification beyond traditional user stories. - Knowledge of payroll, HR or wider HCM software. Good to have: - Experience of working with Azure DevOps. - Experience working across multi-product or multi-team architecture. This is a full time, permanent role on a hybrid basis, 3 days per week in Manchester. You'll work daily alongside your Pod (Engineering, QA, UX) and closely with the Payroll, HR and Workforce Management Product Managers and Owners, with some collaboration across our other pods. Occasional travel for workshops and team events will be required.
