An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and experienced accountant to join a highly regarded, long-established SME accountancy firm based in Rainham (Kent) as an SME Partner Designate. This is a genuine succession opportunity for an individual who is looking to take the next step in their career and play a key role in the future direction and growth of the practice. The Role The successful applicant will take responsibility for managing a diverse portfolio of SME clients, providing high-quality accountancy and advisory support while taking a lead role in the continued development of the practice. Key responsibilities will include: - Managing and reviewing a varied caseload of SME accounts and tax assignments - Providing technical guidance and support to clients across a range of sectors - Reviewing work prepared by junior team members and ensuring accuracy and quality - Developing, mentoring, and supporting more junior members of staff - Building strong, trusted relationships with existing clients and acting as a key point of contact - Identifying opportunities to provide additional value-added services to clients - Supporting business development activities and helping to grow the client base - Taking responsibility for work-in-progress management, billing, and ensuring commercial performance - Contributing to the strategic development and future success of the practice About You This opportunity would suit an experienced accountant who is ready to move beyond a purely technical role and take on greater responsibility within a successful independent firm. This position will be built around the candidates experience and aspirations, and can be personal tax or corporate tax focused, or a mixed tax position. As a Tax Partner Designate, you will work closely with the Tax Partners and wider Partners within the business, servicing a portfolio of owner managed businesses. You will be supported by an experienced team around you, and have lots of autonomy for your portfolio. - Developing personal or corporate tax efficient strategies - Providing support to clients with complex UK and International tax issues - Corporate- Dealing with basic tax planning, cross-border tax structuring and deal tax structuring activities, restructuring, R&D, EIS, capital allowances) - Personal- Supporting the Head of Tax regarding tax projects for individuals (eg, dividend planning, CGT, trusts, Non domicile, VCT, IHT) - Overseeing a team of junior tax staff - Ensuring that the quality of personal tax & corporate tax work is done to agreed cost and timescales - Working with the Tax Partners to grow and develop the firm, and increase advisory services to clients. - Engaging with local referrers and other external third-parties regarding business development. - Confidently explaining tax issues and options to clients in a non-technical manner, and presenting to small groups in client workshops or internal training courses. Requirements Tax Partner Designate Gravesend - CTA/ ACA qualified (or equivalent) - Experience of working in tax and a demonstrable passion for working with, clients in the public and third sector. - Experience of a client or customer facing role. - Proven experience in client handling and managing a busy portfolio. - Interest in building client relationships in order to generate fee-paying work. - Experience of operating, or an exhibited ability to operate, at a Tax Manager or Associate Director level within a busy professional practice.
