Work-Based Learning Coordinator

The Work-Based Learning Coordinator at Calais School designs and manages career exploration and employment-readiness experiences for students with special needs in grades K-12+. This role builds and sustains partnerships with local businesses, community organizations, and agencies to provide internships, job sampling, and workplace visits. The Coordinator aligns work-based learning with IEP and transition goals, delivers workplace readiness instruction, trains and supports job coaches, and collaborates closely with teachers, therapists, and families to ensure safe, meaningful, and inclusive experiences that prepare students for employment and postsecondary success.

Responsibilities

• Design, coordinate, and evaluate work-based learning and transition programs aligned to student IEP goals.

• Develop and maintain partnerships with local employers, community agencies, and postsecondary programs.

• Provide classroom and small-group instruction in workplace readiness, self-advocacy, and career exploration.

• Arrange and supervise internships, job sampling, site visits, and other community-based learning experiences.

• Conduct or coordinate vocational assessments and use results to inform transition planning.

• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, case managers, and families as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Ensure compliance with state and district requirements for work-based learning and student safety.

• Train and support staff and job coaches who accompany students to community work sites.

• Monitor and document student progress, preparing reports for IEP meetings and stakeholders.

• Promote a nurturing, inclusive environment that supports the strengths and needs of students with disabilities.
