Vice President, Construction Underwriting

FM seeks a Staff Vice President Construction Underwriter to lead strategy and performance for a national construction portfolio. This executive role owns risk appetite, underwriting standards, and complex account decisions, ensuring profitable growth and strong portfolio quality. You will analyze loss trends, pricing adequacy, and segment performance, partnering with actuarial, claims, and finance to refine products and guidelines. The role includes mentoring underwriting teams, elevating technical capabilities, and building strong broker and client relationships while ensuring strict regulatory and internal compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead construction underwriting strategy and set risk appetite for the portfolio

• Underwrite and approve complex and large construction accounts within authority limits

• Develop and refine underwriting guidelines, pricing models, and risk selection standards

• Analyze portfolio performance, loss trends, and profitability; implement corrective actions

• Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and finance to optimize product performance

• Coach and mentor underwriters, providing training on best practices and standards

• Build and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, and key clients

• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk controls

• Contribute to product development and market expansion initiatives
