Patient Financial Counseling Specialist - Healthcare

As a Specialist, Financial Counseling at Ensemble Health Partners, you will support patients in understanding and managing their healthcare financial responsibilities. You will review insurance coverage, estimate patient liability, explain bills, and help establish payment plans while maintaining compliance with regulatory and organizational policies. Partnering with clinical and revenue cycle teams, you will use technology-enabled tools and analytics to resolve account issues, reduce bad debt, and improve the overall patient financial experience in a mission-driven, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one financial counseling to patients regarding healthcare costs and payment options

• Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and patient responsibility using payer and internal systems

• Generate and explain cost estimates, bills, and statements in clear, patient-friendly language

• Set up and manage payment plans in line with organizational policies and patient needs

• Coordinate with clinical, billing, and revenue cycle teams to resolve account issues

• Maintain accurate documentation in EMR and revenue cycle systems

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, financial assistance policies, and regulatory requirements

• Use analytics and reporting tools to track and improve collection performance and patient outcomes

• Identify patients eligible for financial assistance or charity care programs

• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the patient financial experience Required Skills
