Collections Specialist

United Medical Systems seeks a Collections Specialist to support our mobile healthcare services revenue cycle. In this role, you will manage high-volume patient and facility account collections, focusing on resolving past-due balances while preserving strong relationships with hospitals and surgery centers. Responsibilities include contacting patients and partners, negotiating payment plans, researching billing discrepancies, and posting payments accurately. You will work closely with billing and operations teams to ensure compliance with HIPAA, FDCPA, and payer rules, supporting our patient-focused, quality-driven culture.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-volume outbound and inbound collection calls for patient and facility accounts in a healthcare environment

• Research and resolve billing discrepancies, denials, and short-pays with hospitals, surgery centers, and patients

• Negotiate payment plans within company guidelines while maintaining a patient-focused, professional demeanor

• Accurately post payments, adjustments, and notes in the billing/EMR and collections systems

• Review aging reports, prioritize delinquent accounts, and meet or exceed daily and monthly collection targets

• Collaborate with revenue cycle, billing, and customer service teams to prevent recurring issues

• Ensure all collection activities comply with FDCPA, HIPAA, payer rules, and internal policies

• Prepare status reports and recommendations on problem accounts for leadership review Required Skills
