Senior Credit Officer, Director

BMO Financial seeks a Senior Credit Officer to lead credit risk oversight for complex commercial and corporate portfolios. You will assess credit quality, approve transactions within delegated authority, and structure solutions that balance risk and growth. Partner with relationship managers to analyze financial statements, set covenants, and monitor portfolio performance. Provide guidance on underwriting standards, policy compliance, and regulatory expectations. You'll mentor junior credit professionals and contribute to credit strategy in an inclusive, customer-focused, and performance-driven culture with strong growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Lead credit underwriting and approval for complex commercial and corporate lending transactions within delegated authority.

• Evaluate borrower financial performance, cash flow, collateral, and industry risks to determine creditworthiness.

• Structure loans, covenants, and repayment terms that balance client needs with risk appetite and regulatory expectations.

• Monitor portfolio quality, concentrations, and early warning indicators; recommend risk mitigation actions as needed.

• Ensure adherence to credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements across assigned portfolios.

• Partner with relationship managers to develop credit-focused strategies that support business growth.

• Present and defend credit recommendations to senior committees and stakeholders.

• Provide coaching and mentorship to junior credit analysts and underwriters.

• Contribute to ongoing enhancement of credit policies, models, and risk frameworks.

• Collaborate with audit, compliance, and risk teams to address findings and strengthen controls.
