AVP, Underwriting Manager

Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. is seeking an AVP, Underwriting Manager for our Middle Market segment. In this leadership role, you will oversee a team of underwriters managing complex property and casualty accounts, ensuring profitable growth and adherence to underwriting guidelines. You will set strategy for portfolio performance, coach and develop talent, approve large or complex risks, and collaborate with sales, actuarial, and claims to design competitive solutions. You'll drive disciplined risk selection, support broker relationships, and contribute to innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement in a collaborative culture.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of middle market underwriters to achieve portfolio profitability and growth targets

• Evaluate, approve, and refer complex property and casualty risks within delegated authority levels

• Develop and execute underwriting strategies, guidelines, and risk appetite for the middle market book

• Analyze account performance, pricing adequacy, and loss trends in partnership with actuarial and finance teams

• Collaborate with sales, distribution, and brokers to structure competitive solutions and retain key accounts

• Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and risk governance standards

• Drive process improvements, underwriting discipline, and adoption of data-driven tools and analytics

• Support talent development through coaching, performance management, and training initiatives

• Contribute to product innovation and sustainability-focused risk solutions for middle market clients
