AVP, Underwriting Director

Zurich Insurance Company Ltd. is seeking an AVP, Underwriting Director to lead a portfolio of commercial insurance business. You will define underwriting strategy, oversee risk selection and pricing, and ensure portfolio profitability while mentoring a team of underwriters. Partnering closely with actuarial, claims, and distribution, you'll evaluate complex risks, shape guidelines, and maintain strong broker and client relationships. Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of underwriters across targeted commercial lines.

• Own portfolio strategy, risk selection, and pricing to drive profitable growth.

• Establish and enforce underwriting guidelines, authorities, and best practices.

• Analyze complex risks, large accounts, and referrals, making final underwriting decisions.

• Collaborate with actuarial, claims, sales, and risk engineering to shape product and pricing.

• Monitor portfolio performance, P&L, and key underwriting metrics; recommend adjustments.

• Engage with brokers and key clients to support retention and new business opportunities.

• Ensure compliance with internal controls, regulatory standards, and risk governance.

• Support development of innovative, sustainable risk and insurance solutions.

• Contribute to talent development, coaching, and a culture of integrity and inclusion.
