The Role Reporting to the Deputy Director of Finance, the Head of Financial Accounting will lead a team responsible for treasury, statutory reporting, transactional finance, taxation, and financial controls across a complex multi-site organisation. Managing a team of finance professionals and working alongside the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, you will play a key role in delivering the organisation's finance transformation agenda, embedding best practice, improving processes, and ensuring robust governance and compliance frameworks are in place. This role would suit an experienced financial accounting leader who enjoys driving improvement, strengthening controls, developing teams, and working closely with senior stakeholders to support organisational decision making. Main Duties - Lead and develop the Financial Accounting function, creating a high performing and collaborative team culture - Oversee treasury management, cashflow planning, and banking arrangements across a complex operational environment - Take ownership of financial controls, policies, and procedures, ensuring they remain effective, compliant, and fit for purpose - Lead the monthly close process, ensuring balance sheet integrity and timely financial reporting - Manage the preparation and audit of statutory accounts and other external returns - Act as the key contact for internal and external audit, ensuring recommendations are implemented and controls are continually strengthened - Oversee VAT and taxation activities and manage relationships with external advisers - Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes, systems, and ways of working, building on recent investments in finance technology and automation - Partner with senior leaders across the organisation, providing expertise on financial governance, risk management, and compliance matters - Deputise for the Deputy Director of Finance and contribute to wider finance leadership initiatives The Successful Candidate - Qualified accountant with ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or CIPFA qualifications - Proven experience leading a financial accounting function within a large or complex organisation - Strong technical accounting knowledge, including statutory accounts preparation, audit management, and financial controls - Experience of treasury management, cashflow oversight, and balance sheet management - Track record of developing teams and leading through change - Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to challenge, influence, and build effective relationships across an organisation - Demonstrable experience improving finance processes and implementing best practice controls - Experience within education, not for profit, public sector, healthcare, housing, or another similarly complex environment would be advantageous What's on Offer? - Salary of £73,000 per annum - Flexible hybrid working with typically two days per week on site and monthly attendance at the central office Part-time and Term-Time Working Options available - Significant scope to shape financial processes, controls, and ways of working - Supportive and experienced senior leadership team with a strong culture and clear strategic direction - Excellent pension provision and wider benefits package. Following a recent period of growth and transformation, the business operates a nationwide portfolio of sites and is investing heavily in finance, data, and technology to support future expansion. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly commercial finance function that plays a key role in driving operational performance and strategic decision-making. The Role Reporting to the Group Head of FP&A, the Finance Business Partner will work closely with operational stakeholders across a portfolio of sites, providing commercial insight, supporting decision-making, and helping drive financial performance. The role offers excellent exposure to senior stakeholders and will play a key part in forecasting, budgeting, performance reviews, and ongoing finance transformation initiatives. Main Duties - Partner with operational leaders to provide commercial insight and financial support across a multi-site portfolio. - Lead the monthly forecasting process, identifying risks, opportunities, and key performance drivers. - Support annual budgeting and rolling forecast cycles. - Deliver monthly performance reporting, variance analysis, and actionable recommendations. - Support monthly and quarterly business performance reviews. - Analyse operational KPIs and identify opportunities to improve revenue, occupancy, productivity, and profitability. - Challenge assumptions and support stakeholders in making informed commercial decisions. - Support the development and standardisation of reporting, forecasting, and KPI frameworks. - Work closely with FP&A, Management Accounts, and Operations teams to improve data quality and reporting processes. - Contribute to finance transformation projects, including Power BI, data analytics, and AI-driven initiatives. The Successful Candidate - ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified, or close to qualification. - Experience within Finance Business Partnering, FP&A, and Commercial Finance. - Background within a multi-site environment such as care, healthcare, hospitality, leisure, retail, property, or related sectors is essential. - Strong stakeholder management skills with the confidence to challenge and influence. - Commercially minded, with a genuine interest in understanding operational performance. - Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capability. - Experience with Power BI or other reporting and visualisation tools would be beneficial. - An interest in leveraging technology, automation, and AI to improve finance processes and insight. This is a hands-on role requiring someone who can quickly understand the operation, produce accurate management information and work closely with finance and operational stakeholders across the business. The successful candidate must be available to work three days per week on site . Due to the operational nature of the role, remote working is not available. The role The Interim Management Accountant will take responsibility for management reporting, financial analysis and operational finance support within a manufacturing environment. Key responsibilities will include: - Preparing monthly management accounts, including journals, accruals and prepayments - Producing accurate balance sheet reconciliations - Supporting budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow reporting - Analysing manufacturing costs, margins, overheads and operational performance - Reviewing inventory, stock movements and work in progress - Investigating variances and providing clear commentary to senior management - Supporting month-end processes and ensuring reporting deadlines are met - Working closely with operational and production teams - Improving financial controls, reporting processes and management information - Providing additional finance support as required during the interim assignment About you You will be a qualified accountant with strong management accounting experience gained within a manufacturing environment. This opportunity sits within the Treasury team and offers exposure to treasury operations, cash management, business planning, and stakeholder engagement within a large and complex organisation. The Role The Treasury Officer will support the Associate Director of Treasury & Business Planning in the day to day management of treasury operations across the University, its subsidiaries, and associated trusts. This role will be responsible for liquidity management, cash flow forecasting, banking administration, reconciliations, treasury reporting, and maintaining strong financial controls. It is an excellent opportunity for an individual with treasury or cash management experience looking to broaden their exposure within a well-established and purpose-driven organisation.
