Infrastructure Engineer

Infrastructure Engineer Location: Hereford (full time on-site) Duration: 12-month contract Rate: 53.73 PAYE / 72.54 Umbrella Clearance: UK Eyes Only - must be eligible for SC and a sole british national due to the nature of the work.

A defence and security organisation is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to help design, build, manage and support the IT infrastructure underpinning a tactical mission network in an on-premise environment . You'll work as part of an IT engineering team supporting a critical communications system used by hundreds of deployed users.

What you'll be doing

• Maintaining and supporting IT infrastructure in a secure, on-prem environment

• Troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure issues (hands-on problem management)

• Developing and deploying new infrastructure capabilities

• Monitoring performance and improving reliability/user experience

• Supporting end-user device build processes

• Communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders (e.g., security and project teams)

Essential experience / skills

• Minimum 3 years as an Infrastructure Engineer (and 8+ years in a related IT field)

• Strong knowledge across:

• Linux OS

• Windows Server

• Virtualisation (VMware / Hyper-V)

• Networking fundamentals (routing/switching - Cisco)

• Strong troubleshooting ability and attention to detail

• Confident written and verbal communication

Desirable

• Infrastructure as Code exposure (Ansible, Terraform)

• Scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash)

• Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes/Podman)

• Admin of enterprise platforms (Atlassian, GitHub, M365)

• Security/compliance knowledge (ISO27001, Cyber Essentials+)
